Chunk began with a simple idea. Bake great food, properly as you would at home - that hands-on approach. No shortcuts, no fuss, just honest ingredients, generous fillings and an obsession with awesome flavour!

Simon and Suzi started Chunk in Ottery St Mary in 2006, making pies and pasties the way they believed they should be made. Word got around, awards followed, and the bakery grew. 2026 marks our 20th anniversary and Chunk Original is still here in Devon, still making everything by hand in small(ish) batches and still dedicated to making the best pies and pasties out there, by some margin.
As the bakery grew, we saw something was missing: Brilliant gluten free bakes with zero compromise on flavour, texture, and the all-important comfort factor to create those “Wow, that’s sooo good” moments so often missing for those on a specialist diet.
That led Simon and Suzi to Honiton, from where we now run Chunk Gluten Free, our dedicated, SALSA accredited gluten free bakery. We’ve taken the unrivalled, award winning knowledge and incredible flavours from Chunk to create gluten free savouries that pack a punch, including a gluten free version of the hallowed Chunk Original Steak Pasty.
And that’s not all… From our Honiton bakery, we also create gluten free cakes, scones and quiches that taste awesome without the slightest hint of “free from”.
Although separate for obvious reasons, our two bakeries now work side by side under one Chunk brand. Chunk Original is our traditional range, and Chunk Gluten Free (formerly Baked to Taste) is our gluten free bakery with its own dedicated team and fully accredited facilities. Now our amazing customers can shop the entire range from one site. Chunk Original or Chunk Gluten Free? The choice is yours and if you want a mixture of the two, that’s no problem either. As Chunk heads into its twentieth year and continues to grow, our approach has not changed. We make exceptional food by obsessing over the details: a hands-on approach, quality ingredients, small(ish) batches, consistency, honesty and amazing customer service.
