Chunk operates from two completely separate bakeries in Devon, just seven miles apart. It's how we protect the integrity of everything we make.
You’ve heard of “six degrees of separation”? At Chunk, we believe “in seven miles of separation”.
One bakery produces our traditional range. The other is a fully dedicated gluten free facility. Separate buildings, separate teams, separate production.
Because when it comes to gluten free, a simple wipe-down of a bakery that also handles gluten is not enough!
Chunk Original Bakery
Based in Ottery St Mary
This is where Chunk began back in 2006.
Chunk Original is our traditional bakery, producing award-winning pies and pasties by hand in small(ish) batches. Honest ingredients, generous fillings, and an obsession with flavour still drive everything we do.
Nearly twenty years on, the approach has not changed. Awesome, award winning food, made properly.
Chunk Gluten Free Bakery
Based in Honiton
As Chunk grew, founders Simon and Suzi saw a gap for gluten free food that delivered real comfort, flavour and texture.
They acquired an established gluten free bakery in Honiton and brought it into the Chunk family, creating what is now Chunk Gluten Free.
It has and always will operate as a SALSA-accredited gluten free facility with:

A completely separate building - No ingredients containing gluten allowed.

Its own specialist team - These guys only make Chunk Gluten Free.

Dedicated equipment and production processes - Gluten Free needs its own specialist approach.

Strict allergen controls and audited procedures - We are SALSA audited regularly maintain accreditation.
This separation allows us to apply Chunk’s award-winning knowledge to gluten free baking without compromise.
Why Two Bakeries?
The two bakeries work side by side under one Chunk brand, but they do not share production space, staff or facilities.
That separation allows us to:
- Protect gluten free integrity
- Maintain rigorous allergen management
- Meet SALSA accreditation standards for both bakeries
- Give customers complete confidence in what they are eating

All products are individually wrapped and handled separately during packing and delivery
to remove any risk of cross-contamination.
