Footy Scran: A Great British Tradition

It feels like football food has become its own sport at this point

If you’ve spent time at a stadium or have social media, chances are you’ve probably seen:

• Questionable burgers
• Chips with a criminal lack of melted cheese on top
• Hot dogs that look slightly concerning
  

But one thing has stood the test of time in British football culture: the pie!!

From chilly Tuesday night fixtures to cup finals, football pies are basically part of the matchday uniform in the UK. Steak pies, curry pies, chicken pies… football and pastry have always worked hand in hand!

So for the World Cup, we thought: “What if football scran went international?”

Mexico: The Tex Mex Pie

Big flavour. Bit messy. Absolutely what you want during football.

Tex Mex food comes from the blending of Mexican and American cuisines, particularly around Texas and the northern regions of Mexico. Think bold spices, smoky flavours, beans, peppers and proper comfort food energy.

So naturally… it belongs in a pie!

Our Tex Mex Pie takes all those classic flavours and wraps the! in buttery pastry for the ultimate sofa-football dinner. This is the one for those of you who don’t mind a bit of spice! Goes down very easily with a good pint at kick off!

United States: Cheeseburger Pie

The cheeseburger is one of the most iconic American foods ever created. Beef, cheese, pickles, sauce… simple, greasy perfection!

But here’s the thing, Especially in the stands of a football match, a lot of cheeseburgers fall apart halfway through eating them. A pie on the other hand - reliable. Good structural integrity!

So we took everything great about a cheeseburger and gave it the Chunk treatment. Rich beefy filling, proper cheesy flavour, all tucked into a pie built for football night.

This one might divide opinion…
which probably makes it even more appropriate for football season and a proper pie night!

Canada: Maple Pecan Pie

Right, technically pecan pie has roots across North America, but it’s become hugely associated with Canada and the northern US, especially around family gatherings, celebrations and comfort food culture!

And while most football scran focuses on savoury food… we thought match days deserved pudding too. Something sweet to cheer you up after your work sweepstake team gets knocked out of the tournament.

Sweet pecan filling, rich buttery flavour… it really is a proper comforting dessert. Perfect for half-time brews!
