It's Great British Beef Week!
A Proper Celebration of British Steak!!
Great British Beef Week is back... And it's the perfect excuse to celebrate something we take seriously at Chunk. Proper British beef!!
Running from 23 to 30 April, Great British Beef Week highlights the great taste of British beef, and also recognises the proper hard work of the farmers behind it!
The campaign was founded by Devon beef producer Jilly Greed and former NFU President Baroness Minette Batters. They worked with the Ladies in Beef farming group, championing all things quality, sustainability and British agriculture.
And for us? It’s a chance to talk about what goes into our steak pasties and pies, and the West Country suppliers who help make them so good!
Why British Beef Matters to Us
We’ve always believed that great pies start with great ingredients. That’s why we use quality West Country beef, sourced as locally as possible, and chosen for flavour first!
It’s the backbone of our range (pun intended!) - from our award-winning Steak Pasty, to our new Steak and Ale Pie, and Steak and Red Wine Pie. Each one built around generous chunks of proper British steak....
Because when the beef’s good, everything else falls into place, we say!!
Our Steak Pasty – Britain’s Best (and We’re Not Shy About It)
Now let’s start with the classic.
Our Steak Pasty has racked up 16 Great Taste Awards and earned its place as Britain’s Best Pasty.
Packed with chunks of delicious free-range British beef skirt, potato, swede and onion, it’s wrapped in our golden shortcrust pastry and baked to perfection!
Chunk Fact: The beef skirt comes from below the ribs, in the section of the cow known as the beef plate primal cut. The diaphragm has two muscles called the outside skirt and the transversus abdominis muscle (or inside skirt). In normal terms – its the cow’s belly!!
As cows don’t do much moooving, this muscle doesn't do an awful lot, and therefore is beautifully tender unlike some other cuts of meat.

Beef skirt has always been the traditional choice for pasties, it’s full of flavour, beautifully tender, and produces that rich, natural gravy as it cooks!
Simple ingredients. Proper seasoning. Exceptional British beef...
That’s why it keeps winning.
NEW Steak & Ale Pie - Gold Award Winner
Our Steak and Ale Pie is everything you want from a proper pub-style pie.
Slow-cooked British beef in a rich, deeply flavoured ale gravy, surrounded by golden pastry. Hearty, comforting, and built for colder days, though we’d happily eat it year-round!

It’s already made a serious impression too:
- 🥇 Gold – British Pie Awards
- 🥇 Gold – Taste of the West Awards 2026
Proof that when you start with quality British steak, you’re halfway there.
Steak & Red Wine Pie - Gold & Class Winner
If you’re after something a little more indulgent, our Steak and Red Wine Pie brings bold flavour and proper depth.
Tender chunks of British steak cooked in a rich red wine gravy, slow-developed for a rounded, savoury finish. It’s our slightly more fancy take on a classic steak pie!
And the judges agreed...
- 🥇 Gold – British Pie Awards
- 🏆 Class Winner – British Pie Awards

Supporting West Country Farmers
Great British Beef Week is all about recognising the farmers behind the food, and we’re proud to work with trusted West Country suppliers who share our focus on quality.
By sourcing British beef, we’re supporting local farming, reducing food miles, and ensuring every steak pasty and pie delivers the flavour you expect from Chunk!
It’s better for the farmers. Better for flavour... and definitely better in a pie.
