Chunk's Winter Side Guide!
Seasonal Sides For Your Pies...
How to serve up your pies the Chunk way this season!
When the temperature drops, only one thing will do.
A proper pie. Fresh from the oven. Pastry crisp, filling bubbling, kitchen smelling unreal!
But a great pie deserves great sides. And winter is the best season for them, hearty, seasonal, and made for soaking up gravy.
So here’s our Chunk Winter Side Guide: simple, seasonal sides that turn your pie night into a full-on winter warmer!
Mash with Butter
Creamy mash is a classic for a reason.

Add a knob of butter and you’ve got something that stands up beautifully to a Steak & Ale Pie or Steak & Kidney Pie. Rich, smooth, spot on! It's a classic for a reason...
Honey-Glazed Roasted Carrots & Parsnips
Sweet, caramelised, and properly seasonal.
These pair perfectly with our Chicken, Leek & Bacon Pie or Chicken, Mushroom & Tarragon Pie. A little sweetness, a little savoury - cracking combo!
Braised Red Cabbage or Some Sauerkraut
Slow-cooked, tangy, and full of depth!!
Ideal alongside the Sheep Pie or Steak & Stilton & Mushroom Pie. It cuts through rich fillings and brings a proper wintery feel to the plate. Sauerkraut is known for its great gut properties, too, so you can feast guilt-free!
Buttery Leeks
Soft, silky leeks with a touch of butter and seasoning.
Simple, comforting, and a natural match for almost any pie, especially our Homity Pie or Butternut Squash & Goats Cheese Pie.
Crispy Roast Potatoes
Not just for Sundays.
Golden edges, fluffy middles... perfect next to the Ultimate Steak Pie when you’re going all-in on comfort!!
A Chunk Recipe to Try at Home
Creamy Mustard Mash
While your pie is baking, knock this up. Takes minutes. Tastes like you’ve really made an effort.
You’ll need:
-
Around 1kg of floury potatoes
-
A good knob of butter
-
A splash of milk
-
1–2 teaspoons wholegrain mustard
-
Salt & pepper
How we’d make it:
-
Peel and chop your potatoes. Boil in salted water until soft.
-
Drain well and let the steam escape for a minute — drier potatoes make better mash.
-
Mash with butter and a splash of milk until smooth.
-
Stir in the mustard.
-
Season to taste.
Serve straight alongside your fresh-from-the-oven Chunk pie and enjoy that proper winter warmer feeling!
