Our Guide to Gluten Free Ready Meals

Low Prep, Quick Gluten Free Meals!

If you’re coeliac or on a gluten free diet, you’ll already know this truth: food takes up WAY too much brain space!

You can’t always just “grab something quickly”. Every lunch break, late finish at work or last-minute dinner can suddenly turn into a mission involving label-reading, cross-contamination checks, and the overwhelming possibility of ending up hungry anyway ☹

That’s why we’re massive fans of creating easy gluten free ready meals at home - not the sad plastic-tray kind, but proper no-prep meals using good freezer staples, quick sides and a few clever shortcuts! 🥧

For us, the best gluten free ready meals need to be fast to cook, Minimal thinking required, easy to keep in the freezer.

🍽  That’s where pies, pasties, rolls and quiches come in!! Add a quick side or two and you’ve got a full meal with basically zero effort!!

So read on for...

·       Meals in under 15 minutes

·       Minimal prep, easy work lunches

·       Quick GF dinners after work

·       Safe food you can actually trust

Here’s our guide to building easy, reliable gluten free ready meals!

Meal One: The “Just Got Home From Work” Dinner…

Pie + Microwave/Oven Chips + Steam Veg

This is the gold standard.

One pie. One bag of chips. One steam bag of veg.

Our pies cook in 20-25 minutes from chilled (at 180C/Fan160C), or for 35-40 mins straight from frozen. That means you can throw your pie in the oven, leave it to cook, and then prepare your sides for when it’s done!

Some potential pairings:

·       Steak, Ale & Chestnut Mushroom Pie with chips & GF Bisto Gravy

·       Chicken, Leek & Bacon Pie with a steam bag of carrots, broccoli or mixed veg

·       Mushroom Stroganott Pie with sweetcorn and gravy

A mix of these components and you’ll end up with a filling, well balanced meal that requires minimal effort (and washing up)! A comforting pie and sides after a long day.

This is exactly the kind of setup that makes gluten free ready meals feel easy instead of stressful.

Meal Two: The Easy Gluten Free Work Lunch

Pasty + Ready-To-Eat Salad

No meal prep marathon required.

Grab a gluten free pasty, throw a bagged salad in your lunch bag, maybe add a dip or dressing if you’re feeling organised, and you’re done!!

For example:

·       Chicken & Chorizo Pasty with a bag of rocket or mixed leaf salad

·       Steak Pasty with some cherry tomatoes

·       Ruby Murray Veggie Curry Pasty with a mango chutney dip and carton of juice

·       Cheese & Onion Pasty with a salad bag or some fruit!

Ideal for office lunches, uni days, train journeys, or just eating at your desk whilst pretending youre answering emails!!

Meal Three: The “Freezer Emergency” Tea

Pie + Instant Mash + GF Bisto Gravy

There is NO shame in instant mash; whether you’ve grabbed a tub from the supermarket or an instant sachet!

Honestly, paired with a proper gluten free pie it becomes elite-tier comfort food.

Some tasty combinations:

·       Chicken, Mushroom & Tarragon Pie + cheesy mash and gravy

·        Steak & Kidney Pie + buttery mash and peas

·       Veggie Tagine Pie + sweet potato mash and carrots

You’ll thank yourself later!

Meal Four: The Picnic / Day Out Snack

Rolls or Pasties + Picky Bits

Finding safe gluten free food while out can be exhausting - especially at events, parks, services or beaches where options are limited!!

This is where grab-and-go freezer bakes become your best mate.

Perfect picnic options:

·       Squash & Spinach Rolls with crisps and a bottle of juice

·       Steak Pasty with a bit of dip and a cake slice

·       Cheese & Onion Pasty with some shop-bought fruit!

Minimal effort. Maximum smugness.

Meal Five: The Dessert!

Any Savoury Bake + A Cake

Sometimes dinner needs a little reward attached… like one of our cake loafs or cake slices!

Some elite pairings include:

·       Very Lemon Drizzle Cake Slice and a Chicken & Chorizo Pasty

·       A slice of Sticky Jamaican Ginger Cake Loaf + Steak, Ale & Mushroom Pie

·       Carrot Cake Slice + Veggie Tagine Pie

Gluten Free Ready Meals Don’t Need To Be Complicated

That’s the big secret.

The best gluten free ready meals often aren’t “ready meals” at all - they’re just reliable gluten free staples paired with quick, easy sides!

A few pies in the freezer.
Steam veg in the freezer drawer.
Microwave chips in reserve.

And suddenly, things become a whole lot simpler!!
