The Best Rainy Weather Nosh

We don’t know about your neck of the woods but in Devon it’s been a bit miserable of late! 🌧️🌧️🌧️ We’ve had plenty of showers (too many!) and it’s getting distinctly chilly. If the sound of the rain lashing against the windows sends a shiver down your spine (yep, us too!) then we reckon it’s time to hunker down and cosy up with some warming dishes.
When the weather turns grey, there's nothing quite like the comfort of a warm meal to soothe the soul and lift your spirits. Whether you're curled up under a blanket with a book, binging your favourite series, or simply enjoying the sound of raindrops, rainy weather foods have a special place in our hearts (and bellies)!
Here’s a roundup of several perfect meals and snacks that make those rainy days a little brighter! 🍽️
1. Soup
There’s a reason soup is synonymous with comfort. The warmth of a hearty soup feels like a hug from the inside, making it a top contender for rainy-day foods. Soups are nourishing and full of flavour, so get out the blender and get chopping! Whether you love a simple tomato and basil soup or you slurp some creamy chicken broth, its bound to bring the ‘aaah’ with a hunk of buttered bread. 🥖
    2. Hot Drinks That Warm You Up ☕
What’s better than sipping on a hot cuppa while listening to the rain? From tea to hot chocolate, a hot drink warms you up from the inside and sets the mood for a relaxed day. Don’t forget to add some extra indulgence to chase away the rainy day blues (think marshmallows & cream for a hot choccy and a dash of spiced syrup in your coffee!)
      3. Comforting Carbs 🥔
Rainy days often call for carb-heavy meals that satisfy cravings and keep you full for hours. There’s something about the smell of freshly baked bread or chips in the oven that turns a gloomy day into a comforting one.
A pie crust certainly ticks the box here! 🥧 In fact, we find there a few situations a pie does not improve! Pair a Steak & Ale Pie with some creamy mash or opt for a carb-full Homity Pie to up the comfort factor further.
        4. Spicy Dishes to Chase Away the Chill 🌶️
A little spice can go a long way in warming you up on a cold, rainy day. Spicy foods can lift your mood, boost circulation, and add a delicious kick to your meals.
A chilli or curry cooked in the slow cooker are the perfect rainy day dinners!
Try our Cluckin’ Curry Pasty or the Kickin’ Chicken Pie if you’re short on time!
          5. Banish the sniffles! 🥬🥕
If you’ve been out in the wet then you’ll need to make sure you’re stocking up on immune boosting foods! Opt for leafy greens and other brightly coloured veg to accompany your carbs. A creamy Chicken & Mushroom Pie goes beautifully with cabbage or colcannon or try roasted root veg with a Butternut Squash & Goat’s Cheese Pie or purple sprouting broccoli with a Mushroom Stroganott Pie. Yum!
          6. Baked Goodies 🍰
There’s something about the rain that makes baking feel like the perfect activity. Filling your home with the aroma of fresh baked goods adds an extra layer of comfort to a rainy day. Indulge that sweet tooth and whip up some banana bread, a lemon drizzle or some chocolate chip cookies to enjoy after your meal!
Rainy days don’t have to be dreary. With the right foods, they can become an opportunity for warmth, comfort, and indulgence. From soups and stews to spicy curries and freshly baked treats, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the cosy side of the rain. So the next time the weather turns stormy, let your kitchen be your refuge and treat yourself to something delicious!
